Missing Tools

There have been reports from some instructors that had courses that were rolled over after the recent Blackboard upgrade that had some settings changed so that they no longer could add any new content: no tests, new items, assignments, etc. The links and the items in the dropdown menu were gone.

Instead of their toolbar looking like this:

It looked like this:

If you see this in your course there is an easy fix. First go to the Control Panel and look for Manage Tools under the Course options.

Select Manage Tools and then Content Type Availability when you get there I think that you will notice that none of the Content Types are checked off as available. Click on the checkboxes to make the items available.

At a minimum you should have these checked:

  • Item
  • External Link
  • Test
  • Assignment
  • Discussion Board
  • Tool

Select the other options if you think you might want to add them to your content.
